The First Field Trip

April 2, 2011

IMG_0896We had our first bus trip of the year and went downtown to learn about some community helpers. We visited the fire hall, the police station, and city hall. Here is a picture of all of us watching as a fire truck came back from a call. We liked it when the firefighters went down the pole.

Happy Halloween!

November 7, 2010

We had a wonderful day of dress up and fun activities for Halloween. We partnered with Mrs. S’s class and ran through special Halloween centres. Mr. G helped us carve pumpkins to make scary Jack O Lanterns. The grade 7 and 8 classes let us play some fun games in the gym. We ate popcorn and got lots of treats from our friends. We also went on a costume parade to each classroom, dancing to the song ‘The Witch Doctor’. It was WAY too much fun! Here is a picture of us using the SMART BOARD to carve virtual pumpkins. Mr. V the custodian was very thankful – much less messy than the traditional pumpkin carving :)

Wow!

September 26, 2010

ericcarleIt has already been 2 weeks and the students have settled in quite nicely to the classroom. It is quite a credit to your parenting that they have responded so well to the rules and routines of the class. I am really looking forward to a great year!

Last week, we studied “Brown Bear Brown Bear”, by Bill Martin. Check out this video of Bill Martin reading this very popular story. Your child will probably be able to read it with him! Brown Bear Brown Bear by Bill Martin

New Life…

April 8, 2010

With the celebration of Easter and Spring and all things new, we completed a short study about ‘Birds’ and are moving into a short unit on butterflies.

Next week, we will study the wonderful story entitled ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle.

We will look at how a butterfly changes from an egg to a chrysalis and finally into a butterfly. Students will work on sequencing these stages.
